Parallel
port lock phase out
September 2005
Dear Customer,
As PCs are
no longer equipped with parallel ports, several customers have
recently needed to exchange their parallel locks with USB ones.
Parallel ports
are progressively less and less supported. As fewer computers
are equipped with parallel ports, and USB ports become more standard,
it has become clear that a general replacement of parallel locks
with USB locks will soon be inevitable.
Replacing existing
parallel locks with USB ones will carry a cost.
Moreover, the "old" parallel locks must be returned
to Design Systems & Technologies to obtain the corresponding
validation of the "new" USB locks.
Replacement
cost varies depending on the software and on the lock type, as
follows:

Additional
insured courier shipping costs may apply and, if so, will be quoted
a the time of replacement.
Replacement
USB locks will be programmed for a 30 day period, and perpetual
lock codes fo the same USB locks will be e-mailed upon receipt
of the old parallel lock(s) at DS&T (allow about 5 working
days). To prevent interruptions in licensing, the "old"
parallel lock(s) being replaced must be returned to DS&T at
once upon receipt of the "new" USB replacement(s).
As the cost
of shipping has increased significantly in recent months, we recommend
that, if possible, you plan to exchange your lock(s) hand-to-hand,
by visiting us at either EUROPORT MARITIME (Rotterdam, 1-5 November)
or METS (Amsterdam, 15-17 November).
If you wish
to do so, it is IMPERATIVE that you confirm so in writing (e-mail
to ds-t@ds-t.com) at least 2 WEEKS IN ADVANCE (15 October for
EUROPORT MARITIME, 1 November for METS).
Of course,
you can keep and continue using your parallel port locks as long
as this is practical for you. It is not mandatory to exchange
locks at this time, only recommended. Locks can be exchanged at
any later time, as you choose.
With regards
to payment:
- a formal invoice will be issued for the transaction, after receipt
of payment
- no shipping costs will be charged for hand-to-hand exchanges
- to simplify the process, payment by credit card is the best
option
It is very
appreciated that this hardware "evolution" inconveniences
everyone.
